East Maui Electric Service Interruption Planned Sept. 14

In an effort to upgrade and improve the electrical service in East Maui, Maui Electric Company has scheduled a planned interruption in service on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The interruption will affect an estimated 700 residential and business customers in the East Maui communities of Nāhiku, Keʻanae, Peʻahi, Huelo and Kailua.

As part of the project, Maui Electric crews will be conducting work at the recently upgraded Keʻanae Substation, which provides electrical service to customers in Keʻanae and Nāhiku.

In order to make necessary connections and safely transfer load to the upgraded substation, crews also need to de-energize existing 23 kilovolt power lines as well as upgrade multiple poles that feed electricity to customers in Peʻahi, Huelo and Kailua.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank our customers for their patience,” said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric in a notification. “For safety reasons, electrical power must be interrupted while crews work as quickly as possible to ensure reliable service to all of our customers in these areas. Such regular maintenance and upgrades to our electrical system is integral in keeping the lights on for our customers.”
