County Beach Parks in Maui County will close until further notice due to a tsunami advisory issued for the state.
The advisory was issued following an 8.3 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chile on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2015.
All Maui County beach parks will close at their usual time but will stay closed on Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2015, until further notice.
An update will be issued after ocean conditions are assessed on Thursday.
At this time, a major tsunami event is not expected; however, higher sea levels and strong currents may still occur.
For this reason, Maui Civil Defense is advising all residents and visitors to stay out of the ocean and away from coastlines from 3 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, until further notice.
