Maui’s Reid Hunter, 24, of Lahaina finished the 45th Annual Maui Marathon at least 15 minutes ahead of his nearest competition, winning the race in a time of 2 hours 44 minutes and 57 seconds. The repeat champ improved over last year when he also placed first. In 2014, he ran the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours 50 minutes and 57 seconds.

Placing first in the women’s race and fifth overall was Yuko Nakai of Honolulu, who finished the marathon in 3 hours, 19 minutes and 24 seconds. The women’s runner up was Chihiro Kaneko of Tokyo, Japan.

Earning a second place finish in the men’s race, with a time of 3:02:30 was Marten Renberg of Stockholm, Sweden; followed by third place finisher Linus Candelaria of Honolulu, who finished in 3 hours 4 minutes and 38 seconds.

The 45th Annual Maui Marathon was held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, starting at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului and ending in Kāʻanapali.
