UPDATE: The Maui Department of Water Supply issued an update saying West Maui water intake facilities are now clear of debris from weekend storms. The department’s request to conserve water is now lifted.

Heavy rains carrying debris have caused clogging problems in the intake lines of the Mahinahina and Lahaina Water Treatment Plants, county officials announced.

As a result, the Maui County Department of Water Supply is asking all consumers in West Maui to please conserve water and avoid any unnecessary water use until further notice.

Department officials expressed their appreciation to customers for their cooperation and understanding.
