Playground at South Maui Park to Close for Renovation

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the South Maui Community Park Playground and upper parking area will be closed for renovations from Monday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 4, between 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and the parking lot only will open after 4 p.m.

An additional partial closure of the playground area will take place Saturday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, according to a county announcement.

County officials say work will include demolition of the existing whale feature and installation of replacement play features to enhance safety and playability of the playground.

The announcement states that the playground will remain closed during demolition hours of 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the parking lot open after 4 p.m.

The playground will then be partially closed during installation, which is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

The public is asked to avoid the construction areas and equipment to ensure public safety.
