Double Motorcycle Fatality in Wailuku Overnight

A Wailuku man and Kahului woman suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle crash on Lower Main Street overnight, police said.

The incident was reported at approximately 1:51 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015.

According to police reports, the driver of a black 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, traveling south on Lower Main Street, failed to negotiate a left bend in the road and collided into a raised curb.

Police say the male operator and female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports.

Maui police have since identified the victims following notification of next of kin, as Timothy Stephen Herring, 31, of Wailuku and Rebekah C. Booth, 23, of Kahului.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that both Herring and Booth were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Police say the involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.

This was Maui County’s 23rd traffic fatality for 2015. compared to 21 at the same time last year.
