The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health Sanitation Branch recently completed inspections of virtually all of Hawaiʻi’s more than 10,000 food establishments to ensure they are in compliance with the rules of the state’s food safety code.

The department launched inspections of food establishments with a color-coded placard system in July 2014.

The recent inspections covered about 6,000 such establishments on Oʻahu, 1,800 on Hawaiʻi Island, 1,700 in Maui County, and 690 on Kauaʻi.

A total of 45 Hawaiʻi Department of Health inspectors worked to complete the inspections. On Oʻahu, there are currently 30 Hawaiʻi Department of Health inspectors in the field; seven on Hawaiʻi Island; four for Maui County; and three on Kauaʻi.
