Kurt Muroki & Friends at The MACC Jan. 7
Kurt Muroki & Friends will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Muroki plays a double bass once owned by the famous double bassist, Domenico Dragonetti and attributed to Nicolo Amati circa 1665.
Muroki will be joined by Joel Smirnoff on viola, Peter Wiley on cello, Joon Yoon on piano and Carmit Zori on violin.
The ensemble will perform Schubert’s Trout Quintet, among other repertoire.

Originally from Maui, Muroki was the first bassist to win the Honolulu Symphony’s Young Artist competition. A graduate of the 1989 Hawai‘i Youth Symphony, he attended Juilliard School of Music.
He has performed with the chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, New York City Ballet and Tokyo Opera Nomori.
He has collaborated with the Guarneri, Juilliard and Tokyo quartets, among others, and has performed throughout Asia.
