Martin to Present ‘Triple Bottom Line of Doing Business in Hawai‘i’
The Hawai‘i chapter of Public Relations Society of America will feature Maui Electric Company Government and Community Relations Director Mahina Martin as its guest speaker at a luncheon on Thursday, March 10, at Max’s Restaurant in Kahului.
The luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m. for networking; Martin’s presentation will begin at noon.
The topic will be “Triple Bottom Line of Doing Business in Hawai‘i: Kuleana, Malama and Aloha.”
According to Martin, doing business in Hawai‘i is more complex, with an expanded triple bottom line. Hawai‘i customers and communities expect to see businesses balance their financial needs with long-standing values that reflect the culture and traditions of an island state with the most isolated population on Earth. Businesses that embrace the triple bottom line of kuleana, mālama and aloha succeed at merging commerce with culture.
Martin joined Maui Electric Company in 2013 after nearly 30 years of community and government relations work that included leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, county government and community-driven initiatives.
Martin previously served as community and communications director for the County of Maui and was named the 2007 Maui County Employee of the Year for her exemplary communications work during public safety emergencies affecting the communities of Maui, Moloka’i and Lāna‘i.
She is also a former Department of Hawaiian Homes commissioner, representing Maui.
Born and raised on Maui, her lifelong commitment to building community strength has led to extensive involvement on boards of state and local organizations and organizing Maui Interscholastic League’s sport of high school outrigger paddling for Maui, Moloka’i and Lāna‘i.
Public relations practitioners, communicators and business owners are welcome to join the luncheon. Admission is $32.64 for PRSA members and $37.92 for non-members.
Price of admission includes fried chicken, the soup of the day, pancit canton (vegetarian noodles), pork adobo, chop suey (vegetarian), rice, soda and iced tea, and a caramel bar for dessert.
Only 30 spots are available. To reserve a seat, go online.
