UPDATE: Power Restored to 2,600 After Accident on L. Honoapiʻilani Rd.

UPDATE: 7:39 p.m. 4/3/16: Lower Honoapiʻilani Road is now OPEN..

UPDATE: 6:53 p.m. 4/3/16: An estimated 2,673 customers in Honokōwai and Mahinahina lost power today when a motor vehicle accident brought down utility lines.  Representatives with Maui Electric say a majority of customers were brought back online at 11:19 a.m. with all customers restored by 5:12 p.m. “The vehicle struck a fire hydrant and utility pole causing a domino effect resulting in downed electrical lines and leaning poles along the highway. The accident also damaged several transformers and fuses,” said Maui Electric’s Shayna Decker.  Maui Electric restoration crews worked throughout the day to replace the downed and leaning utility poles and repair the electrical lines and equipment.

UPDATE: 4:09 p.m. 4/3/16:  Maui Electric has restored service to a majority of customers in the Honokōwai and Mahinahina area around 11:19 a.m. following a vehicle pole accident. Maui Electric crews are continuing to make repairs as safely and quickly as possible.

UPDATE: 1:43 p.m. 4/3/16: Maui Electric continues to work on repairing utility lines that were damaged in a motor vehicle accident reported at around 4:48 a.m.  Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

ROAD CLOSURE/POWER OUTAGE L. HONOAPIILANI RD: 5:15 a.m., 4/3/16‬, Lower Honoapiʻilani Rd is closed between Ulali St and Hoaka Pl due to a motor vehicle accident fronting Hale Mahina. A pole was damaged and utility lines are blocking the roadway. There is also no electrical power in the area. Crews are working to repair the damaged utility lines.

UPDATE: 9:32 a.m., 4/3/16: Pūlehu Road is now OPEN.

ROAD CLOSURE PULEHU RD: 1:16 a.m. 4/3/16 Pūlehu Road approximately 1 mile mauka of the Central Maui Landfill is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. A pole was damaged causing utility lines blocking the roadway. Utility crews are on scene to repair the damages.
