Lānaʻi Fire Burns Brush Near Police Station

Firefighters on Lānaʻi doused a small grass fire behind the Lānaʻi Police Station on Tuesday afternoon following reports from witnesses who said they saw juveniles running from the area just before the fire broke out.

The incident was reported at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2016.  Responding firefighters found a small 20 x 20 foot area of grass burning in a vacant lot about 50 yards to the rear of the police station on Fraser Avenue.

Department officials say the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished at 4:06 p.m.

Exact cause of the fire was undetermined; however, department officials have classified it as a suspicious incident.
