PBS stations nationwide will air a one hour documentary entitled WS Merwin: To Plant a Tree. The poet laureate, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and environmental activist has dedicated his time to preserving and regenerating native plants at his home on Maui.

“His tangible actions to nurture his surrounding environment go hand-in-hand with his poetry, offering insight and humor on the human experience and providing a refreshing sense of the relevance of poetry in our lives today,” according to a PBS documentary description of the film.

The documentary is being aired in commemoration of the 46th anniversary of Earth Day, and also to mark the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month. It will air on PBS Hawai’i next Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m., but is also available for on-demand viewing online now HERE.
