Elyse Ditzel has been appointed as Maui Ocean Center’s new director of marketing.

Ditzel brings with her more than eight years of experience in retail and community marketing on Maui and O‘ahu,

Her appointment reinforces MOC’s renewed focus and commitment to building community partnerships centered on environmental stewardship and education for residents and visitors alike.

“It is a great honor to join the exceptional team at Maui Ocean Center,”said Ditzel. “I look forward to contributing to building and deepening community relationships centered on marine stewardship and education. Strengthening our education-focused programs through innovative displays and community outreach is a priority and I am excited to play a role in bringing Maui Ocean Center’s mission out to the visitor and resident communities.”

Ditzel has contributed over the past six years to Maui’s environment educational outreach programs through collaborate partnerships with NOAA, Mālama Maui Nui, the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project and others.

Her commitment to the preservation and health of Maui’s natural habitat will greatly enhance her role as chief community liaison at Maui Ocean Center, MOC’s press release said.

In 2008, Ditzel moved to Hawai‘i to open the first Whole Foods Market stores on O‘ahu and Maui. Her love for the islands, its natural beauty, rich culture and aloha spirit has greatly influenced her community-based approach to marketing. With a strong commitment to creating win-win partnerships and long-term relationships, Ditzel’s passion for Hawai‘i’s people and culture is evident in everything she does, MOC stated.

Ditzel was born in California and studied physical geography and hydro-geomorphology at California State University, Northridge. After completing two years of post-baccalaureate studies, she worked for eight years at the Ventura County Watershed Protection Agency. Her love for healthy eating and education eventually lead to joining the Whole Foods Market Hawai‘i team.

She currently lives in Central Maui with her husband and their dog. The family enjoys playing at the beach as well as long hikes around the island.
