The Hosmer Grove Campground and Nature Trail, in the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park, is closed until further notice due to hazardous trees.  The Pools at ʻOheʻo in Kīpahulu also remain closed due to effects from Tropical Storm Darby that impacted the islands over the weekend.

Park rangers have contacted a tree inspector to evaluate conditions at Hosmer Grove.

The campground and trail will re-open after safety concerns are addressed. Rangers say they do not have an estimate as to when the area will be cleared of safety concerns.

Due to continued storm drainage from Darby, the pools of ʻOheʻo remain closed in the Kīpahulu District of the park.  The current conditions are due to drainage from Tropical Storm Darby, which passed Maui on Saturday and Sunday.

Park rangers remind the public that flooding can occur at anytime, not just during or after storms. The rain forest section of the park is high above Kīpahulu. The rain forest is often rainy even when Kīpahulu is sunny. The streams of the rain forest drain through Kīpahulu to the ocean. For your safety, please stay out of closed areas.

All other park facilities, visitor centers, campgrounds, restrooms, and trails are open.
