Q: Is it possible for police to crack down on violators of pedestrian safety laws in Pā‘ia Town?

It’s dangerous for drivers and pedestrians alike to have people jaywalking and ignoring traffic signals all over the place.

A: The Maui Police Department has been made aware of your concern about jaywalking, and while a specific campaign is not planned for the near future, our MPD officers are enforcing these safety laws as part of their normal duties.

Pedestrians should keep in mind that the crosswalks are there for their safety and that if they are cited for jaywalking they could subject to a $100 fine.
