Maui Electric and Kā‘anapali Golf Courses will be postponing the 8th Annual Keiki Tilapia Fishing Tournament scheduled on Sunday, September 4, due to approaching storms Hurricane Madeline and Hurricane Lester. Participants were notified earlier today and will be contacted again as updated event information becomes available.

“The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our first priority,” said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric. “Therefore, in anticipation of possible storm impacts, we have decided to postpone our Keiki Tilapia Fishing Tournament. We know that folks have been planning for this event and we regret having to do this, but safety always comes first. We’d like to thank all the participants, volunteers and especially our partners for their support and understanding.”

Last year more than 600 keiki and their ohana attended the fishing tournament. Annually, more than 100 Maui Electric employees and their families help to organize the tournament and volunteer at this event that raises funds for Maui United Way, a non-profit organization that raises and invests corporate and individual donations in over 37 health and human services partner agencies and programs to benefit the Maui County community. Many of the Maui Electric employees who volunteer their time to coordinate this event are also part of the company’s emergency and storm response teams.
