Lahaina Banyan Tree Hoʻolauleʻa this Weekend

The Lahaina Banyan Tree Ho’olaule’a takes place this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in West Maui.  The event includes Hawaiian music, hula, Maui made crafts, keiki activities and local food.

The event is part of the Festivals of Aloha programming that showcases cultural events on Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi and Hāna. The annual celebration of aloha honors the Hawaiian heritage with royal pageantry, parades, street parties, concerts and family activities.

Entertainment will take place all weekend long.

Grammy Award Winning Garret Probst, Ka Pa Hula O Maui under the direction of Kumu Doll Aricayos, Falsetto Legend Richard Hoʻopiʻi along with his ʻohana, The Makaha Sons, Maui’s own Ahumanu and Kulewa will perform on Saturday Sept. 17.

On Sunday, come back to the Banyan Tree for Leo Kiʻekiʻe Champion Kauʻi Krueger, Hula with the Lahaina Honolua Senior Citizens, up and coming Kalani Peʻa, the nahenahe voices of Nā Wai Eha and Kuaola.

The 2016 theme, “He Keiki Aloha, Nā Mea Kanu” is translated as: Beloved children are the plants. “Good farmers know that in order to grow truly healthy crops, plants must be cared for as if they are children,” event organizers said.  “This reciprocal, familial kind of love is the philosophical foundation – it can fuel the soul of our people into an aloha-filled future.”
