Lo to Resign from Maui Hospital, Next Job to Lead Hale Makua

Hawaiʻi Health Systems Corporation Maui Region CEO, Wesley Lo announced today that he will resign effective at the close of business on Oct. 31, 2016.

In a written announcement today, he said, “I had hoped to make it to transition; however, it appears that the transition will no longer happen until July 2017, and I need to capitalize on some exciting opportunities to ensure that I am able to provide for a future for my family.”

Lo said he has seen growth and improvement of the healthcare delivery system on Maui over the 13 years he has been with the HHSC.

In his announcement he thanked the employees, staff and physicians saying they, “work so tirelessly to provide the care needed for the community, and also all of you, who have been so supportive and integral in making Maui Memorial, Kula Hospital and Lānaʻi Community Hospital such wonderful assets for the community and the state.”

He said that over the years, “some controversial changes” have been made in addition to the construction of buildings and growth of programs.

“I think we are close to the finish line to leave the health system with an extremely bright future with the transition to Kaiser,” said Lo.  “Although I will not be here to make it all the way across the finish line, I am thankful for all of your support and for allowing me to be part of this historic effort,” Lo wrote.

Lo said he did not want delays to stop progress in ensuring the completion of the transition, saying, “this effort is too important to Maui.”

“I have pledged to the Maui Region Board that I will use all of my efforts over the remainder of my employment as well as provide any assistance thereafter to complete the transition,” he said.

Lo said he will continue to work for the people of Maui as the Chief Executive Officer of Hale Makua Health Services, a position he plans to take, effective, Dec. 1, 2016.

“Hale Makua is the leader of post-acute care health services in Maui, and I am honored to have been chosen to lead them. I am excited that I will continue to work with many of you in the future,” Lo wrote.

“Again thanks for all your support for all these years. I will be forwarding my new contact information to you as I get closer to my last day here at Maui Memorial,” he said.
