11th Annual Maui ‘Ukulele Festival, Oct. 2
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents the 11th Annual Maui ‘Ukulele Festival on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the A & B Amphitheater.
Gates open 12:30 p.m. and admission is free.
This year’s lineup includes: Richard Hoopi‘i, Aidan James, Willie K, Arlie-Avery Asiu, Kamakakehau Fernandez, Paula Fuga, Seabury Hall Hawaiian Ensemble, Nick Acosta, Nelly and Daniel Baduria, the Hula Honeys, the Kolohe Ukulele Club, Alika Nako‘oka, and Derick Sebastian.
There will also be a performance by Hālau Nā Lei Kaumaka O Uka. Renowned ‘ukulele advocate and teacher, Roy Sakuma, and KPOA 93.5 FM personality, Alaka‘i Paleka, will serve as emcees in celebration of Hawai‘i’s beloved instrument.
‘Ukulele will be featured as door prizes, and the festival also features displays of made-in-Hawaiʻi arts and crafts and island food available for purchase.
FREE ‘Ukulele Workshop:
Prior to the ‘Ukulele Festival, organizers will host a FREE ‘Ukulele Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the McCoy Studio Theater.
Conducted by Roy and Kathy Sakuma, the workshop is for students of all ages. Students should bring their own ‘ukulele, notepaper and pencil. No advance registration is required.
The workshop is presented by the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i.
Sorry, no umbrellas or coolers may be brought into the amphitheater, but organizers say there will be plenty options for food and beverages throughout the day.
