Pe’ahi Size Swell Expected to Build, Peak Overnight

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Maui County waters through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A High Surf Warning is posted for north and west shores of Molokai and the north shore of Maui from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A Marine Weather Statement has been issued stating that a large north-northwest swell will rapidly build Monday with open ocean swells reaching 15 feet. Harbors exposed to northwest and north swells may see moderate harbor surges and large breaking waves at harbor entrances.

Maui Surf Forecast
North: Wave heights are expected to build through the afternoon and evening with a slow morning but rising to 20 to 30 foot faces with the best breaks possibly catching 40 foot faces by sunset.
West: Surf is waist high today or less. Spots catching the wrap will be bigger.
South: Surf is waist high today or less.
The largest swell of the winter season is upon us. The north-northwest should build through Monday afternoon and evening with a peak in the overnight hours. Tuesday the swell will begin to ease. The biggest sets will be Monday at the end of the day and first thing Tuesday morning. Most “normal” breaks will be completely closing out.
Nothing significant is expected out of the SPAC for the foreseeable future.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
