$7.2M Classroom Building and Outdoor Learning Area Proposed at Nāhiʻenaʻena

The Department of Education proposes to construct a two-story, eight classroom building and outdoor learning area at Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena Elementary School.

Located at the uppermost section of the campus, the approximately 2 acre site was previously graded and is currently covered by assorted dry grasses. The site is not used for school activities.

According to plans, the classroom building will be erected on a portion of an undeveloped site and the remainder improved for outdoor learning and activities.

The outdoor learning area will be grassed, landscaped and feature a covered structure to be built as a “classroom without walls”.

The cost of the project is estimated at $7.24 million. Construction is projected to commence in April 2017 with completion by Summer 2018.

The state Office of Environmental Quality Control division issued a Finding of No Significant Impact determination. Comments are not taken on this action.
