Red Cross on Maui to Benefit from “Fuel Up. Do Good.” Campaign

During the months of October through December 2016 a portion of all sales at all Maui ʻOhana fuels locations will be donated to the Hawaiʻi Red Cross as part of the “Fuel up. Do Good.” program.

Under the program, ʻOhana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of the local community, and donates a portion of every gallon of gasoline purchased at all ʻOhana Fuels stations in that community.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Maui Red Cross will also be holding a car wash at the Kahului ʻOhana Fuels location (85 S. Wākea Avenue), with all proceeds from the event also going the American Red Cross of Hawaiʻi.

“We are so honored to be chosen as the beneficiary for this great community program”, said Michele Liberty, Director of the Maui Red Cross. “We encourage our neighbors and friends to fill up their tanks at any ʻOhana Fuels locations throughout October to December to help us give hope to those in need. We are not a government agency and rely on the generosity and support of Hawaiʻi’s people to provide our critical services to our community.”

In Maui County, the Red Cross works to help when disaster strikes and when someone needs the comfort of a helping hand.

Last fiscal year, the Red Cross on Maui responded to 12 home fires, helping 39 family members get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives after tragedy struck. The Maui Red Cross also opened two shelters due to brush fires; sheltering residents who needed to evacuate or were unable to return to their homes.

To help prepare residents and build stronger and more resilient communities, the Maui Red Cross also installed 78 smoke alarms last fiscal year, making 28 homes safer. They also taught disaster preparedness to 293 keiki, through Pillowcase Project Presentations.
