Maui Mokupuni Group Planning Kūhiō Parade

The Maui Mokupuni group hosts a meeting from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 19, at Kēōkea Marketplace to plan the Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole Hoʻolauleʻa and Parade proposed for April 1, 2017, in Wailuku.

The meeting is aimed at Hawaiian homestead leaders and residents, but is open to the public. The agenda also includes a Tiny Homes project. Mokupuni President Blossom Feiteira will preside. Organizers ask attendees to bring sandwiches or salads to the potluck session.

A 10 a.m. meeting with Hawaiian Homes Commission Maui commissioner Napua Canto will precede the mokupuni meeting; homesteaders and the public are also invited to the 10 a.m. session.

The nonprofit Maui Mokupuni is an arm of the Sovereign Councils of Hawaiian Homelands Assembly, or SCHHA. The statewide SCHHA is the largest coalition of Hawaiian homestead associations; it advocates on behalf of beneficiaries of the 1921 federal Hawaiian Homes Commission Act.

Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole was the congressional delegate who spearheaded passage of the landmark act.
