Aloha Mayor,
Q: I saw there was a recent announcement that Kīhei Aquatic Center is closed indefinitely due to an electrical failure.
I don’t mind swimming in the ocean but parking is better (and safer) at the pool because Kīhei beaches are always so busy.
Is this electrical problem serious and how long will repairs take?
A: I have good news and bad news. The bad news is yes, it is serious. The main electrical breaker shorted out and without it we can’t run our pool pumps and filtration system, which we need to keep the water clean and sanitary for public use.
The good news is our parks department had the part shipped in recently and will be working over the weekend to make repairs. So hopefully we can send out another announcement that the pool will be open again very soon, by mid-December at least.
