Snowfall Experience at Maui’s Queen Ka’ahumanu Center

Residents and visitors will be treated to a “white Christmas” this holiday season as Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center transforms into a giant snow globe.

“Let it Snow!” is a snowfall experience occurring on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Dec. 1 through Christmas Eve as part of the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center’s “Let’s Celebrate the Holidays Together” yuletide program.

“Nothing is more unexpected and special than snow falling on Maui,” said Toni Rojas, director of marketing for Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center. “Our goal is to help families and friends create heart-warming memories and traditions they will cherish and talk about with great happiness for generations to come.”

Snowflakes will descend on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center frosting its center promenade during its “Let it Snow” shows at 6:30 and 8 p.m. from December 1 to 22 and at 12 and 2 p.m. on December 24. Each snowfall show will last for ten minutes and present a different holiday theme to make sure there is something for everyone from country, jazz, pop, contemporary and a cappella music to dance performances. Starbucks will also treat early arrivals to each show to hot chocolate.

“There’s no need to ‘go out in the storm’ as families and friends will enjoy a real-life winter wonderland while wearing their board shorts and slippahs.” said Rojas.

The snow is created from a specialized snowmaking system custom-designed for QKC and operated by a snow technician. Using special effects adopted directly from Hollywood movie sets, the “Let it Snow!” show is a realistic snowfall effect created with millions of snow-like “bubbles” that look and act like real snow in every way. Unlike real snow, though, it vanishes upon contact and does not accumulate. The snow is water-based, so it’s not harmful, and if you catch a snowflake on the tip of your tongue, it might taste similar to a soap bubble.

“Let it Snow” is the main attraction of Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center’s “Let’s Celebrate the Holidays Together” yuletide program kicking-off on November 19 with Santa Claus’ arrival.

Daily special events and activities are scheduled including door prizes up to $500 in value, pet contests, complimentary treats from community organizations, keiki craft corners, holiday karaoke nights and so much more.

Weekly activities such as Maui Made Sundays, Cultural Connection Mondays, Farmers Market, Groove to Moove and QKC DNC Teen Night will continue with a touch of holiday flair.
