Accident, Boulders Result in Mid-day Delay on Honoapi’ilani

The boulders that were partially blocking travel on the Lahaina-bound shoulder near the scenic lookout on the Honoapiʻilani have since been removed.  Motorists reported heavy Wailuku-bound traffic with the commute estimated at 1 hour 40 minutes for travel from Lahaina to Kahului.

Traffic on Honoapiʻilani Hwy in the area of the Scenic Lookout is slowed in both directions due to inclement weather and a large boulder on the Lahaina-bound shoulder. Police and State Highways crews are working to remove the boulder. Motorists should expect delays and use caution while driving.

We have reports of a motor vehicle accident on the Honoapi’ilani Highway on the area of McGregor Point on the Wailuku side of the Scenic Lookout. Police and ambulance personnel are on scene. Traffic is backed up in the Lahaina bound direction to Māʻalaea.  There is also reports of boulders on the roadway.  Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area and expect delays.
