Koa Opens New Year of Free Hawaiian Music Series

Lahaina Restoration Foundation begins another year with its free Hawaiian Music Series concerts in 2017.

Opening the series for 2017 is the band Koa, performing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26 on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn at the corner of Dickenson and Front Streets in Lahaina.

Allen Koa, ‘Aiau Koa, Mark Vaught and Richard Bissen comprise the group, Koa.

Although the four musicians come from diverse musical backgrounds, they are all passionate about one thing — Hawaiian music.

The common thread that brought these friends together was their passion for the songs of old Hawai‘i and the challenge of achieving that traditional sound revered by their parents.

Whether playing smooth melodies or striking harmonies on guitar, bass and ‘ukulele, the members of Koa love to engage in old time Hawaiian music. They perform together around the island.

Limited seating is provided; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome.
