No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 6.7 Solomon Islands Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a preliminary magnitude 6.7 earthquake reported at 1:04 p.m. HST on Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Solomon Islands region, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The PTWC says that based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-Wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.

According to the USGS, the quake was centered: 44 miles W of Kirakira, Solomon Islands; 110 miles SE of Honiara, Solomon Islands; 483 miles SE of Arawa, Papua New Guinea; 532 miles NW of Luganville, Vanuatu; and 693 miles NW of Port-Vila, Vanuatu.
