“Famous International Festivals” Buffet at UHMC
The University of Hawai‘i Maui College Culinary Arts students will present a special buffet event on Thursday, April 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. that will highlight the flavors of four international festivals.
Tasting stations will line the balcony of the Pā‘ina Building and The Leis Family Class Act Restaurant and will feature foods representative of Chinese New Year, Obon, Mardi Gras nand Dia de los Muertes.
Garde Manger Chef Instructor Craig Omori says, “This project is a great opportunity for our advanced students to showcase their abilities and passion for cooking. From what I’ve seen so far this semester, this particular class has some of the most talented students that have ever come through our culinary program.”
Student Mikiala Holley is excited to showcase her skills at the event. “This class challenges us to really be creative and step outside of our comfort zones, in plating, flavor profiles, and textures. Guests will be amazed by the variety of dishes that we will be featuring,” she says.
“Famous International Festivals” is $75 per person and tickets may be purchased on OpenTable. Reservations are required. There is also 12 special seats available at two chef’s tables inside the Skills Kitchen for $125 per person.
The event will have a cash bar serving beer and wine. All proceeds will support the UHMC Culinary Arts Program.
