Brush Fire Found Within Apparent Kīhei Homeless Camp

Firefighters responded to a brush fire reported in a vacant lot near Kio Loop in Kīhei, Maui at 9:22 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

Responding crews from Wailea arrived on scene at 9:33 p.m. to find a 50 x 50 foot area of brush, kiawe trees and trash burning within what appeared to be a homeless encampment.

Crews had the fire under control at 9:44 p.m. and extinguished at 11 p.m.

The exact cause of the fire was undetermined.

An engine, ladder and water tanker from Wailea responded to the incident.
