Two juvenile pedestrians were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries after being struck by a vehicle on West Papa Avenue in Kahului on Monday morning.
The incident was reported at around 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2017 on West Papa Avenue near the Laʻau Street intersection.
Police say a gold 2004 Suzuki SUV, operated by a 34-year-old Kahului man, collided into two 14 year old girls, both from Kahului, who were crossing the roadway in a crosswalk near the intersection.

The vehicle stopped and the operator waited until police arrived. Police say the driver was not injured in the incident and was released at the scene pending further investigation.
The accident occurred about three-tenths of a mile east of Maui High School, about a half mile south of Kahului Elementary, and about a mile-and-a-half away from both Maui Waena Intermediate School and Lihikai Elementary.
