MCFCU representatives say the merger represents its continued mission to help Maui County families achieve and sustain stable financial futures, a goal since its inception in 1937.

Under the merger, MCFCU representatives say the credit union’s west and central Maui communities will have access to increased service and financial opportunities across three MCFCU branch locations: Kahului, Wailuku, and Lahaina.

“It is MCFCU’s goal to ensure a smooth transition for all members and staff, which includes transforming the WMCFCU branch into MCFCU’s Lahaina branch,” MCFCU representatives said.

WMCFCU CEO and manager, Michele Kawahara, will take on the new role of Chief Strategy Officer for MCFCU and serve as a part of Senior Management. Emi Sodetani-Cabanilla will be the new Lahaina Branch Manager. Remy Bilog and Kathy Rocetes will also continue to serve West Maui through the Lahaina branch.

“We are excited to welcome the West Maui Community FCU members to Maui County FCU!” said Gary Fukuroku, President and CEO of MCFCU. “We hope to provide the same excellent service to these members and the community in West Maui. The products and services that MCFCU has will be of benefit to the Lahaina community. Our West Maui presence helps fulfill our mission statement of ‘Caring For Our Members’ Needs’.”

Since their beginnings, Maui County FCU, established 1937, and West Maui Community FCU, established 1938, have operated with the ‘ohana principle and credit union philosophy of People Helping People.
