Aloha Mayor,

Q: When is Waiehu [Waihe‘e] Beach Park going to reopen? I read the announcement that the road was closed due to hazardous trees, but the kūpuna really miss going down to the beach park for their exercise and social time. How much longer?

A: The tree assessment and removal is actually being coordinated by the landowner of the parcel where the hazardous trees are located, which is the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust.

HILT estimates the work will be completed by the end of this week.

Our County Parks staff will reopen the road and the gate to the beach park once the HILT project is completed.
