Update Oct. 18: Maui Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal traffic accident on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, in Wailuku.

The collision occurred fronting 455 Waiale Road at approximately 7:54 p.m. as a vehicle traveling north on Waiale Road collided into a pedestrian walking east across Waiale Road. The vehicle involved fled the area.

54-year-old Floyd Nahinu Jr. of Wailuku was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The vehicle involved is described as a white colored quad cab pickup truck.

A motor vehicle collision occurred on Waiale Road north of Waiinu Road in Wailuku on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at approximately 07:54 p.m.

The collision occurred as a vehicle traveling north on Waiale Road hit a pedestrian walking east across the roadway.

The vehicle fled prior to police arrival.

The pedestrian was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The pedestrian has since been identified as 54-year-old Floyd Nahinu Jr. of Wailuku.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle involved is a white-colored pick-up truck with an extended cab.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are unknown at this time as the investigation is on-going.

This is Maui County’s 13th traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to 16 the same time last year.
