Maui Electric Supports Hāna Arts Program

Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric, and Warren Puha, a Maui Electric troubleman based in Hana, presented Hāna Arts, Inc. with a $2,500 donation for their Building East Maui’s Community through Creativity program.

Maui Electric Company presented Hāna Arts, Inc. with a $2,500 donation in support of the organization’s arts and cultural programs for East Maui residents.

The donation, provided by Maui Electric’s Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation, will support the Building East Maui’s Community through Creativity program that aims to diversify the East Maui community’s economy through art education and activities.

“Hāna Arts is extremely thankful for the support from Maui Electric,” said Becky Lind, executive director of Hāna Arts. “Their efforts truly help us figuratively and literally turn on the ‘lightbulbs’ of those present at our creative arts programs in East Maui.”

Celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, Hāna Arts offers structured education to residents of all ages through six key programs that focus on a variety of art forms, including photography, yoga, drawing, screen printing, ceramics, dance, cultural performances as well as hula, mele, and oli craftsmanship. The organization also works within East Maui’s school system to ensure it reaches the community’s youth and extends opportunities to adults who also benefit from art programs that enhance self-esteem and confidence.
