$600,000 to Help Homeless Hawai‘i Veterans Re-Enter Workforce

The US Department of Labor will award a total of $637,258 to the US VETS and Catholic Charities Hawai‘i to assist homeless veterans with workforce reintegration.

The announcement was made today, by US Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), who is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Sen. Schatz said, “These programs help veterans translate their skills from military service to the civilian workforce. They give our veterans and their families the support they need, and they also help job creators and employers recruit and retain good workers.”

The funding is awarded through the DOL’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program, which aims to help state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, and faith-based and community organizations provide job skills training, apprenticeship opportunities, and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, to veterans.

US VETS is receiving $387,258 and Catholic Charities Hawai‘i is receiving $250,000.
