Maui Applicants Get Briefing for Federal Tsunami Aid

A briefing will be held on Maui today for government and non-profit agencies that are applying for federal disaster aid. The funding was made available following a Major Disaster Declaration signed by President Barack Obama for the March 11, 2011 tsunami that impacted the state.

The federal funds can be used for repairs, restoration, reconstruction, or replacement of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water control facilities, public buildings, utilities, parks and harbors.

The Maui applicant briefing takes place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Maui Civil Defense offices in Wailuku.

Similar briefings were held on Oahu yesterday, and are planned for Hilo tomorrow (9-10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Aupuni Center Conference Room 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo). For more information on program eligibility and benefits, call Suzanne at (808) 733-4300, ext. 813.
