STUDY: Hawai‘i Is 2018’s 5th Best State for Health Care

Hawaiʻi is ranked the 5th Best State for Health Care in the nation according to a new study released by the personal-finance website WalletHub.  The highest ranked states in the 2018 study include: (1) Vermont; (2) Massachusetts; (3) New Hampshire; and (4) Minnesota. The lowest ranked states for health care include: (51) Louisiana; (50) Mississippi; (49) Alaska; (48) Arkansas; and (47) North Carolina.

With the Affordable Care Act remaining in effect and the CDC reporting that over 88% of the population has a regular place to go for medical care, WalletHub released its report on 2018’s Best & Worst States for Health Care.

The report was based on 40 metrics including health care cost, accessibility and outcome. The data set ranges from average monthly insurance premium to physicians per capita to share of insured population.

Some highlights for Health Care in Hawaiʻi include the following(1=Best; 25=Avg.):

• 23rd – Avg. Monthly Insurance Premium
• 1st – Dentists per Capita
• 3rd – % of Insured Adults
• 4th – % of Insured Children
• 16th – % of At-Risk Adults with No Routine Doctor Visit in Past Two Years
• 8th – % of Adults with No Dental Visit in Past Year
