17 Displaced in Kahului Home Fire

Residential Fire in Kahului

On August 1, 2018 at about 1:18 a.m., Wailuku Patrol Units and Maui Fire Department Engine 10 were assigned to a structure fire at 567 Pohai Street in Kahului. Responding officers reported no flames but heavy smoke coming from the main residence on the property. Upon arrival, officers evacuated the occupants from the main residence and the multiple dwellings on the property. Engine 10 arrived and located the fire within the southwest bedroom of the main residence and proceeded to extinguish the fire.

A total of 17 residents were displaced as a result of the fire as this property has multiple dwellings. They were all assisted by the American Red Cross who also responded to the scene.

The total estimated value of the southwest bedroom and its contents is $21,000.00.

At this time the investigation reveals the cause of the fire was accidental and no foul play is suspected. No injuries were reported.
