UH Foundation Names Demirbag Director of Development for UHMC
The University of Hawai‘i Foundation appointed Dr. Jocelyn Romero Demirbag, Ed.D. to the advancement team as director of development for the University of Hawai‘i Maui College.
Demirbag’s responsibilities include expanding fundraising efforts and broadening philanthropic support for students and programs at the college
University administrators say Demirbag spent much of her career building relationships with people who want to make a difference in the lives of their students and community. Previously, Dr. Demirbag served as head of school at Honolulu Waldorf School for four years, 16 years as chair of school for Haleakalā Waldorf Schools and two years as the philanthropic services officer Maui County for the Hawai‘i Community Foundation.
After graduating from Maui High School, Dr. Demirbag earned her BA in Sociology at Loyola Marymount University, her MA in Sociology from University of California, Berkeley and her Ed.D. in Educational Professional Practice at UH Mānoa.
Past recognition includes being a PONO Leadership Program Fellow and receiving the Gintong Pamana Leadership-Achievement Award from the Filipino Chamber of Commerce. She also served in a variety of volunteer leadership positions for nonprofits including Hospice Maui, Hawai‘i Association of Independent Schools, Hawai‘i Council of Private Schools, and Maui Nonprofit Directors.
Dr. Demirbag will begin her new position with UH Maui College on Oct. 22, 2018, filling the position of director that Cordy MacLaughlin vacated upon her recent retirement on June, 30, 2018.
