Hawaiʻi Gas Prices Pause As Oil Plunges
Gas in Kahului and Wailuku is $4.17 today. That’s one cent higher than last week, three cents higher than last month, and more than 55 cents higher than at the same time last year.
Statewide, gas prices remained steady or increased just a penny in most areas according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average is $3.90 a gallon.
AAA Hawaiʻi general manager, Liane Sumida said local gas prices continue hovering near their highest levels in four years, but plunging worldwide oil prices could help bring them down in coming weeks, providing there are no supply issues.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.79, which is unchanged from last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date a month ago and 80 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.95, which is up a penny from last Thursday, seven cents more than on this date last month and 79 cents higher than on this date a year ago. Līhue’s average price for regular is $4.06, which is unchanged from last Thursday, six cents higher than on this date last month and 68 cents more than a year ago.
Nationwide, the average price has dropped by about five cents in the past week.
