Maui Gas Prices Continue to Fall
Gas price declines around the islands ranged from eight to 15 cents a gallon over the past week as cheaper crude oil prices drove retail prices down, according to the AAA Hawai‘i Weekend Gas Watch.
In Kahului, the average price is $3.98, which is eight cents lower than last Thursday, 22 cents lower than on this date last month and 29 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
Wailuku’s average is $3.98, which is eight cents lower than last Thursday, 22 cents lower than on this date a month ago and 28 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.47, which is 10 cents lower than last Thursday, 32 cents lower than on this date a month ago and 30 cents higher than on this date last year.
The Hilo average price is $3.61, which is down 15 cents from last Thursday, 36 cents less than on this date last month and 32 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
Līhue’s average price for regular is $3.79, which is 12 cents lower than last Thursday, 27 cents lower than on this date last month and 26 cents more than a year ago.
Today’s statewide average price is $3.61 a gallon, which is 11 cents lower than last Thursday, 30 cents lower than a month ago and 22 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
“While gas prices are still expensive compared to last year or other regions of the country, they’re getting lower with the Western United States gas price averages declining over the past week,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawai‘i general manager. “Hawai‘i’s state average drop of 11 cents a gallon was the largest state average decline in the nation with California (-8 cents) and Washington (-6 cents) not far behind.”
