Maui Gas Prices Continue Falling in 9th Week Decline

A ninth consecutive week of price drops brought many gas station prices even further below $3 a gallon on Oʻahu and closer to $3 a gallon on other islands, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

In Kahului and Wailuku, the average price is $3.61, which is seven cents lower than last Thursday, 27 cents lower than on this date last month and 14 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

Today’s statewide average price is $3.28 a gallon, which is six cents lower than last Thursday, 29 cents lower than a month ago and two cents less than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.13, which is seven cents lower than last Thursday, 32 cents lower than on this date a month ago and one cent higher than on this date last year.

The Hilo average price is $3.31, which is down six cents from last Thursday, 26 cents less than on this date last month and four cents higher than on this date a year ago.

Līhue’s average price for regular is $3.53, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, 25 cents lower than on this date last month and the same as a year ago today.

“Western U.S. gasoline supplies are plentiful, according to a report Wednesday from the U.S. Energy Information Administration,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager. “The large supply coupled with slower demand is continuing to push down prices.”
