Tech Entrepreneur to speak at February Maui TechOhana
Tech entrepreneur and investor Michael Powers will be the guest speaker at Maui TechOhana, a meeting that the Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB) will be hosting for Maui entrepreneurs interested in technology. According to the MEDB, the meeting serves as an opportunity for technology entrepreneurs to network and learn new skills.
Powers was the second product manager at YouTube where he created the concept of YouTube Channels. He was the early team member of six internet startups, two of which were acquired by Google. He is currently living on Maui and continuing to act as an investor and advisor to companies such as TaskRabbit, Turo, TurningArt, Insight Engines, and Origin.
“I hope that attendees will gain a better understanding of what steps they can take to start and grow their business online from Maui − how to develop ideas online, attract investment, and how take advantage of new platform technologies such as Cloud services, blockchains and mobile development innovations,” Powers said. “They should take away an understanding of remote job opportunities in the “gig” economy and ways for tech contractors here on Maui to seek additional work emanating from tech hubs such as the Bay area.”
Over 35 small business owners and entrepreneurs attended the last Maui TechOhana meeting in June. The Maui TechOhana will be held on Wednesday, February 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cohana at the Maui Research and Technology Center. The event is free and refreshments will be provided. Anyone interested in attending can find out more details and RSVP online.
