Dr. Derrick Beech Surgical Oncologist MHS

Maui Health System today announced the addition of new premiere Surgical Oncologist Dr. Derrick Beech, MD, to Maui’s medical community. Dr. Beech is a private-practice physician, accepting new patients and most insurance plans for individuals in need of cancer surgery.

Dr. Beech most recently served as Chief of Surgery at Phoenix Indian Medical Center where he oversaw surgical services to Native Americans in Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Prior to that he was part of the executive leadership team of Cancer Treatment Centers of America serving as the national Chair of Surgery.

Born and raised in Atlanta, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Duke University and Doctor of Medicine degree at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. It was during his residency training in surgery at Temple University Hospital and Clinics in Philadelphia that he felt a strong calling towards cancer surgery and the compassionate care that is needed when working with cancer patients.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and also a respected author in the field of surgery with numerous published manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts. Dr. Beech will also assist with general surgery cases.

“A cancer diagnosis is life changing,” said Dr. Derrick Beech, MD. “I truly believe that being surrounded by love and support, including a medical team that is the absolute best at what they do and compassionate and kind, is vital. I have spent the last 25 years committed to providing world-class care while being a pillar of support to my patients.”

“We know, and studies have shown, that healing happens best when close to home and ‘ohana,” said Michael Rembis, Maui Health System CEO. “Traveling for medical care, and especially for cancer treatment, adds not only physical and psychological angst to a patient and their family, but is also a financial burden. It is just not the best way to care for any community and ours deserves better. The addition of Dr. Beech and other new specialty physicians is just one of the things we’re doing to ensure our residents and visitors can be treated here on Maui.”
