Vehicle Plunges 30 Feet Down Embankment in Hāliʻimaile, Maui

Three people were transported to the hospital after the vehicle they were in, plunged 30 feet down an embankment in Hāliʻimaile.
The incident was reported at around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.
Maui fire officials say the small pickup truck that the individuals were in, traveled off the road and down a near-vertical embankment, coming to rest on its side.
According to department reports, an adult male sustained a back injury and a “school-aged” girl was uninjured in the accident.
Fire officials say a third person, an adult female, suffered facial lacerations and a possible rib injury. She was still inside the vehicle when firefighters arrived.
All were carried out to awaiting ambulances, which transported them to the hospital for further care.
The patients are believed to be residents of Maui. The cause of the accident was unknown at last report.
A fire crew from Makawao and a rescue company from Kahului responded to the incident.
