Maui Flood Watch Through Friday Afternoon
A flood watch remains in effect for Maui and the Big Island through Friday afternoon, April 12, 2019.
The National Weather Service says a broad upper level low nearing the islands from the east will remain in the area through tomorrow. Cold air and instability combined with lots of moisture will lead to periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms, mainly over windward areas, according to the NWS forecast.
“Although most of the activity will focus over windward areas with the strong trades in place, heavy
showers and thunderstorms will also remain possible across leeward areas,” according to the NWS.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding. The public is reminded not to cross fast flowing water in their vehicle or on foot.
