New Car Rental Service on Lāna‘i
A new car rental service recently opened on the island of Lāna‘i, offering a kama‘āina rate and vehicle options. Business representatives say the new options will make it easier for those visiting from Maui either for work or a staycation, to get around the island.
Lāna‘i Car Rental offers vehicle rentals both kama‘āina and tourists, as well as business travelers and government workers.
Customers can select from three types of cars: the all-electric and compact Chevy Bolt; the 4-wheel drive Jeep Wrangler Sahara; and the Ford Transit Minivan capable of transporting up to seven passengers.
“We have seen a consistent demand for more independent travel options on Lāna‘i, among kama‘āina and tourists alike,” said Doug Stephenson, who oversees Lāna‘i Car Rental and is Director of Fleet Maintenance at Pulama Lāna‘i. “This service gives visitors more choices, not only from the standpoint of how they explore the island but also in terms of the types of vehicles available.”
Vehicle rental rates begin at $75 per day for kama‘āina guests. Resident rates are $150 per day for a Jeep Wrangler; $125 per day for a Ford Transit; and $75 a day for a Chevy Bolt. Government and military discounts are also available. According to the company website, non-resident rates are: $195 per day for a Jeep Wrangler; $155 per day for a Ford Transit; and $95 a day for a Chevy Bolt.
Lāna‘i Car Rental is also partnering with Expeditions Ferry to offer guests package deals for those traveling from Maui to Lāna‘i. The rental service will also provide guests of Four Seasons Lāna‘i and Hotel Lāna‘i with rental cars to enhance their Lāna‘i experience.
Reservations are available by contacting Lāna‘i Car Rental at 808-565-3100 or reservations@lanaicarental.com. Walk-in rentals are available at the facility located at 949 Lāna‘i Avenue in Lāna‘i City, but advanced bookings are recommended to ensure availability.
