Red “Closed” Placard Issued to Paddlers Restaurant and Bar in Kaunakakai
The Hawai‘i Department of Health Sanitation Branch has posted a red “Closed” placard at Paddlers Restaurant and Bar located at 10 Mohala Street in Kaunakakai for alleged pest infestation and maintenance issues.
An inspection of the restaurant was conducted on May 7, 2019 in response to a complaint and based on alleged violations found during earlier health inspections.
Health officials say a red placard has been posted at the establishment to protect public health.
The state Department of Health released information today saying the following:
“During yesterday’s inspection, extensive roach infestation was found in the kitchen area and in food, on gloves and other items used in food preparation. The closure of Paddlers Restaurant and Bar and the suspension of its food service permit will remain in effect until the establishment passes a follow-up health inspection and receives DOH approval to reopen.”
The DOH Sanitation Branch protects the health of Hawai‘i residents and visitors through education of food industry workers and regulation of food establishments statewide.
The branch conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food products are prepared, manufactured, distributed or sold.
The branch also investigates the sources of food borne illnesses and potential adulteration to control and prevent the spread of illness.
Health inspectors work closely with business owners, food service workers, and the food industry to ensure safe food preparation practices and sanitary conditions.
