Maui Now Tries the Brand New Bite Squad Delivery
Bite Squad debuts in Kahului on Maui this week.
To test out the restaurant food delivery service, Maui Now tried it out today.
At around 10:45 a.m. we went online to the website and began the process of ordering something to eat.
The first thing you need to do is type in what city you’re in. We typed in “Maui” first and that didn’t work. Typing in “Kahului” instead popped up a bunch of restaurants in the area.
We went with Acevedos Hawaicano Café since they were closed for renovations a little while ago and have since reopened. Ordering was simple and if you choose to do so, you can include customized notes for the delivery driver such as “please bring extra napkins.”
Bite Squad says regular delivery fees start at $2.99, but the service fee or delivery fee for our order was $4.99, which brought the total for the $13.95 Crispy Pork Carnitas Plate up to $24.04, which included $2.10 in taxes and fees.
One interesting thing about the Bite Squad website is that if you stay online after you order your food, it will continue to update you on the progress of your order. Updates kept popping up such as:
“We placed your order at 11:07 a.m.”
“Your food will be ready for us to pick up at 11:27 a.m.”
“Shannon D (driver’s name) left to deliver your order at 11:23 a.m.” (Apparently the food was ready 4 minutes earlier than expected)
After that you can follow the driver on a map, much like Uber or Lift, to see in real time where they are on the road.
As the driver gets close they send out a text letting you know they’ll be by shortly.
And that’s it, the food was delivered no fuss no muss. Would we have paid more than $24 for lunch usually? Not really, but the service was fast and friendly. It’s up to you to decide for yourself if Bite Squad is worth the extra bite out of your wallet.
